About Us
The North Carolina Association for Healthcare
Quality (NCAHQ) was developed from a small,
loosely knit group of people who needed to
get together to exchange ideas, gain support
and network. Initially this small group met
in various hospitals in the eastern part
of North Carolina on a quarterly basis. There
they talked, brainstormed and traded ideas,
monitors and plans which had worked to bring
about quality health care through monitoring
and evaluation. The participants (members)
encompassed a wide range of healthcare professionals
including but not limited to utilization
review, risk management, QA coordinators
and medical records staff.
The
charter members of the organization felt
that it was a worthwhile endeavor
to become
affiliated with the national organization.
This affiliation would represent all
its professions in the state of North
Carolina
who recognized that quality in healthcare
can be proven. Under the leadership of
Linda Malone, who served as first president
of
the NC organization, the National Association
was contacted and requirements were satisfied.
North Carolina became the official state
chapter of the National Association for
Quality Professionals in 1989.
The National Association later changed
its name to the National Association
for Healthcare
Quality and North Carolina followed with
its name change to the North Carolina
Association for Healthcare Quality. The
North Carolina
Association for Healthcare Quality has
grown into an organization which has
not only succeeded
in meeting criteria for national affiliation
but has also become recognized as the
providors of strong educational conferences
and known
for supporting requirements for certification
as a healthcare quality professional.
